16th March 2013 - New Orleans to Tallahassee
Today will be a quick update. Today was the longest drive we will have for our trip, and there was nothing to do on the way that was of interest.
We set off about 9am and headed east. We drove... and drove... and just for the fun of it, drove some more.
As we left New Orleans, we drove out through the ninth ward. This area was one of the hardest hit with Katrina and the 14 foot levy walls were broken, so within minutes the whole district was under 14 foot of water. We took photos of several of the houses that haven't been repaired or fixed yet. They have on the front still the markings from the emergency workers who first inspected the home after the hurricane. The number on the top is the date is was last searched, on the left is who searched the house, on the right is whether the house was searched, gas leaks etc, and the number on the bottom says how many dead are in there.
We left the State of Louisiana, crossed into Mississippi. We stopped there briefly and went a premium outlet there. Renee bought a few things, including a new hat for Kobe. I'm sure you will see it in the next few days in photos that are posted.
We then headed on, crossed the state line to enter Alabama. We stopped in Mobile Alabama for lunch and went to a place called 'The Hungry Owl'. This is another thing that has featured on Man Vs Food. In short, i got a very tasty where the meat pattie is actually stuffed with 3 different types of cheese and sausage. Again, that is stuffed in the middle so when you take a bite, it starts to leak out :-) If you are interested or want to see more, search on YouTube for Man Vs Food and Hungry Owl.
After that we continued on, and then crossed another state line and finally entered Florida!
We had planned to have tea at a place called Teds Montana Grill. I had eaten there when i was over in America for work, and thought it would be a good place to have tea. It was about 10 minutes away from the hotel so thought it was conveniently located. We pulled up outside and there were people waiting out the door. This didn't look good. Renee got out and found out it was about an 80 minute way for a table. By this time it was about 7:10pm. We had in our travels gained an extra hour in timezone changes so there was no way we were waiting.
Tea ended up being a dodgy meal from Wendys that was nearby. In the end that might have been a good thing as with the kids being stuck in the car all day, upon finally getting out for more than a few minutes they were buzzing.
We then eventually got to our hotel in Tallahassee and checked in. This hotel room we are staying in is a full 2 bedroom suite, which has a King bed in one room, and 2 Queens in the other. The first hotel in our whole stay where the kids, and us get our own bed. We bath the kids, and go to put them to bed. Do they want to sleep in their own bed??? Nope. They want to share one. So now, as i write this, both kids are happily asleep in the same queen bed while next to it lies an empty queen bed.
Both are excited as tomorrow, we leave and head towards Disneyworld. A special tea awaits them tomorrow night, something i'm sure there will be plenty of photos of on the blog.
