8th March 2013 - Dallas

To begin the day today we had breakfast. We went down to the dining room where breakfast was server and Kobe was being difficult. The alarm in the roof went off this morning so I dont think he woke up the happiest little chappy. He was disruptive and noisey to start with and we told him if he continued, he would not be staying here and having breakfast. He contiuned, so before i even ate anything Kobe and I left and returned to our room.

A stranger then came up to Renee and thanked her for her we handled our children. She said we were good parents as others would just let there children scream. Kobe might not have enjoyed his short stay at breakfast, but it was nice to know people see what we are doing and dont let our children just run free.

After Breakfast we headed off to the Dallas World Aquarium. Its strange its called an Aquarium, as only about half of it is an aquarium, with the rest of it being other animals and rainforest plants. We see a Leopard, Flamingos, Monkeys, Sloth and many different Toucan birds as well as various fish. We saw a Manatee, and all i could think about was 'How I Met Your Mother'. If you don't watch the show, you won't have any idea what i'm talking about. Both Charli and Kobe got to feed a Toucan a blueberry, and the Sloth was just out in the open so you could stand next to him to see him.

After the Aquarium, we headed to the Sixth Floor Museum, the building from which JFK was shot. We got self audio tour headphones so Charli and Kobe had them and that helped keep them occupied while we walked around, read, and looked at all the interesting things.

No firearms and no photography. Seems about right...

We had a subway for lunch which is good as it gets the kids eating a ham and cheese roll, and sliced apples rather than a takeaway lunch which they have got more often that we would like. We left here and had about a 5 minute drive back to the hotel. By the time we got back, Kobe was asleep. Again, we had to move him out of the car, through the hotel and into our room where we transferred him into his bed. After Charli waking him up yesterday after half an hour, he had a good sleep today. We let him sleep a little longer than normal today and had a quiet afternoon.

For tea we went to Medieval Times which is a dinner show a mile down the road we are staying on. We saw an ad for it earlier in the day and thought it would be too expensive, but i picked up a tourist book and it had buy and adult, get a child free. When a child is $36 or thereabouts, and you save that twice, that makes a big difference. We arrived and walked through the doors and i was pleasantly surprised by the scale of things. There were employees everywhere, and the size of the waiting room, bar and kiosks was huge. I was expecting a fairly cheap looking experience, but what we got really surprised me.

The audience is split up into 6 groups, each of who back a particular knight. We were in the yellow team. We all got a hat and would cheer on our brave yellow night. At one point of the show the knight comes out with flowers and gives them out to all the young girls in his section. Charli was super excited to be receiving a flower. She said thank you, and I could see the knight saw that and seemed to like it. Later in the show, he came out with his jousting stick and there was a sash on the end that he gave to one person in his section who was called 'The Queen of the Tournament'. He came straight to Charli and held out his jousting stick while she removed it. Renee put it on her and she didn't want to take it off. I think she really enjoyed herself. Kobe, who we were a little worried about sitting still for 2 hours was perfect. He was mesmerised by the whole show. His meal was in front of him and he didn't take his eyes of the show to eat. I pretty much had to hold food to his mouth for him to eat it.

We came back to the hotel afterwards as it was about 8pm, packed our bags and put the kids to bed. They started off in the same double bed, but that wasn't going to happen. So i put one each in a double bed, and lay down next to Kobe just so they would relax and go sleep. Renee walked in a few minutes later and Kobe was still awake, but i was asleep. Neither made any more noise so a few minutes later I woke, and got back up.

Thats pretty much our trip to Dallas finished. Tomorrow we are driving to San Antonio, and will be going past Fossil Rim Wildlife Refuge which is kind of like an Open Range Zoo but you can drive your own car through it if you want. We were planning on going to Salt Lick BBQ in Austin that is an old school BBQ place that was rated as 1 of the top 10 BBQ places in America, but i dont think it will fit in, and the wildlife refuge is taking priority.
