2nd March 2013 - Arriving into LA

The day has nearly ended. In all, Saturday the 2nd of March for us will be a 42 hour day. We departed at 11:20am, and after being on a plane for 14 hours arrived at 6:45am, nearly 5 hours before we took off.

Our plane - The A380

The kids getting comfortable prior to takeoff

The flight was the part we were dreading the most. Having 2 kids on the plane was a big unknown and we weren't sure how they would handle the long trip, being confined to one little seat. Getting checked in and through security etc was a bit of drag with the kids. They weren't real keen on standing still while we filled out paperwork, or waited in line. At this point we thought it was going to be a bad flight.

The flight itself, was awesome. The kids could not have been much better. We planned and packed and had so many things to keep the kids occupied, and in the end we didn't use most of them. They quickly settled into the flight and were content to watch tv, color, or play with a few of the new mini figurines they unwrapped on the plane. Shortly after takeoff, Kobe had his sleep and slept for close to 90 minutes which is normal, and then they were awake as they normally are. Both kids were asleep by 8pm Melbourne time which is earlier than normal which worked out great. They both then slept for just over 5 hours and woke about 30 minutes prior to landing. I got absolutely no sleep, and Renee got probably less than an hour.

We got off the plane and found Wayne waiting to get through customs. We had planned to have breakfast but the transfers for his next flight and the exit were in different directions so it wasn't really going to work. Oklahoma City it will have to be :-)

We arrived at our hotel at about 8:30am and checked into one of our rooms. We booked 2 rooms thata each had 2 queen beds that were adjoining rooms. We thought it could help to keep the kids seperate in case on slept horribly, so it didn't impact the other too much. Plus it helps when the rooms are $84 a night and include breakfast for all, airport shuttle, free water, etc.

We went for a quick walk and got breakfast at Carl Jrs. There really isn't too much around where we are staying. We chose it for its ease to get to and from the airport, and its right next to a Metro station to make it easier to get around tomorrow for the basketball. We went through the supermarket and and grabbed a few things and got back to the room and it was only 10:30am.

Today was always going to be a wasted day that we didn't really do anything. All 4 of us climbed into 2 queen beds and slept for about 90 minutes. Then as a way to fill in some time in the afternoon and keep us awake, we went to Manhattan Beach.

Charli.... ahhh... nevermind.

The weather here is about 30 degrees so its a nice time to go to the beach. Its interesting how many people were at the beach, yet so few were in the water. Then we put our feet in the water and realised why. The water was ice cold.

While there we bought some Girl Scout Cookies. I wanted to buy some while I was in Atlanta but you had to order them in and i wasn't going to be there when they arrived. They were selling them direct at the beach so we got a couple of packets.

We went to a little mexican place for tea which is always easy with the kids. Charli had some Nachos, and Kobe a chicken quasadilla. Renee and I had a Taquito and Chicken Enchilda each. Tasty, and with unlimited softdrink refills came to $38.

We came back to the hotel and had a quick swim in the spa. The pool itself was a tad cold, but the spa was really nice :-)

Happy and Smiling Charli and Kobe

After a bath for Kobe and shower for Charli, it was bedtime for all. Kobe fell asleep watching TV at about 7pm, and Charli made it to about 8pm.

For a day we had written off and had no plans, going shopping, snoozing, going to the beach, Mexican for tea and a swim ended up working out ok.

Right now its 8:40pm and i'm the only one awake. I think its time to get some sleep. Who knows what time everyone will be awake tomorrow morning (hopefully).
