4th March 2013 - Off to Oklahoma City

Both the kids had a good nights sleep over night and Charli is looking like the Charli we are used too. Happy and smiling, and just a little bit cheeky. Kobe is Kobe. Full of energy and just a little menace!

We got up this morning and got everything ready quickly as we were getting a shuttle to the airport at 7:30. We got to the airport and checked into our flight to Oklahoma City. As OKC is a smaller destination we flew American Eagle which is an offshoot of American Airlines. As such, we didn't use the normal terminal we had to catch a bus to another terminal where they all left from. We got on the bus and Charli looks at me and says in a serious tone "Dad, are you sure this is a plane?".

We got to the terminal and we had a horrible thought. We thought we may have left one of Charli's toys in the hotel room that she had slept with the night before. There was a chance it was in our main suitcase, but we wouldn't know until we arrived.

Flight was a fairly small plane, but was without issue. Both kids were fairly well behaved on the flight. They were happy to play with the little figurines we had used on the trip over, and this flight to keep them amused and quiet. Charli with her Sofia the First figurines, and Kobe with his Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

About an hour into the flight, Kobe decided he was tired so lay his head down and had a sleep.

We arrived in Oklahoma City and as the airport is a bit smaller, we were actually stuck on the tarmac for about 20 minutes because the gate the plane was supposed to go to, still had a plane in it that hadn't departed.... so... we just waited.

Eventually we got off and got our bags and went and picked up our rental car. You have to install the kids seats yourself and that was a mission and a half. They are totally different to what we normally have, and instead of attaching the car behind the head of the carseat on the speaker shelf, they attach in 2 different locations under the back seat. So.. you need to remove the back seat in order to connect them. A manual might have made things a bit easier.

We got to our hotel which is in Bricktown OKC. Our room is a 2 bedroom suite which has a king bed in each room. We will sleep in one room, and the kids can sleep in the other together. Worst comes to worst, there is a sofa bed which we can fold out that one can sleep on if it doesn't work with them sleeping in the same bed.

It was time for lunch so we went for a little walk and visited a fine establishment which was just around the corner. The kids seemed to enjoy it. They had nice kids menus and crayons etc so it kept them happy.

After lunch we went back to our hotel and went swimming in the pool. They have an indoor pool and it was right up Kobes alley. They had a full size basketball ring attached to the side of the pool.

After the swim we came back to the room for a while and then decided we would go get a late tea, go shopping at an outlet mall and get some groceries. It was a 10-15 minute drive there, and on the way Kobe fell back asleep. He has an amazing ability to sleep anywhere. He is still catching up on sleep from the flight so we will have to more wary in the next day or so about when we go driving or do something because if there is a chance he could fall asleep, there is a fair chance he will.

In the end we scrapped those plans and got a quick take away tea and came back to the room and put him to bed. Charli was asleep shortly after so tomorrow should hopefully be a good day. I'm not sure what time everyone will be up tomorrow as the flight from LAX to OKC changed the time by 2 hours.

Wayne arrives tomorrow so that means shopping, steak and NBA :-)
