9th March 2013 - Dallas to San Antonio
We left Dallas this morning. As we were driving away we said to the kids we were leaving Dallas. Charli turns around and says "We are leaving Dallas??..... I miss Dallas already". That started things off. Every now and then for the rest of the day Kobe would randomly say "I miss Dallas". Kinda Cute.
The direct drive from Dallas to San Antonio would be about 4 and a half hours. Today we went via Glen Rose Texas which had the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center. Its a wildlife place where you can either get a guided tour where you hop on an open bus and get driven around, or you take in your own car and drive the route yourself. All the animals are out in the open and you buy animal food before you enter. All the animals would come up to the car wanting to get food. Some where a little more eager and would stick their heads in the windows trying to get their feed.
One of the first animals we saw was an Ostrich who was a little overzealous. I think that spooked Kobe a little who at that point wanted his window up. He was happy with the young deers, but anything that had horns he seemed to be skeptical of.
We saw Cheetahs, Rhinos, and Giraffes. The day was a little damp so the Giraffes weren't out and about and able to be fed but we did see them. The animals we ended up feeding were Antelope, Gazelle, Deer, Zebras, and Aoudad.
The park took about 2 hours so when we left it was lunch time. We had some tortillas and vegemite so the kids ate them. Once lunch was done, Kobe fell asleep in the car. We continued on towards San Antonio. From this point it was about 3 and a half hours.
One places i wanted to stop at was Buc-ees. A Petrol station that NCR do the POS for that is known for being huge. It has about 30 POS units which is ridiculous. There are a few photos which show Buc-ees, but none show how big it is properly.
Charli saw people posing before us, and copied what they did. Thats a keeper. Charli's first thumbs up photo :-)
Time was getting away from us and we would have been arriving at the hotel around 6pm, so we decided to go somewhere on the way for tea. We had been talking about going to a Chuck E Cheese at some point, and there was one directly on our way, so we decided to go there. Its like a video arcade and kids restaurant rolled into one. It is complete and utter madness! Kids were everywhere. Our kids had never been to any kind of video arcade so this was something new for them. They seemed to enjoy themselves. Chuck E is a mouse character and they had someone in a mouse costume walking around. Kobe was not a fan. He asked me 'Who is that?'. I said 'Thats Chuck E'. Kobe's response... 'I don't like Chuck E'. He certainly did not. Everytime he got near he lost it and started to cry. It will be interesting to see how he copes with seeing Mickey Mouse and the gang. We could end up with some super awesome photos :-)
Once we were finished, we left for the final 30 minutes or so until we got to the hotel. We got closer to the hotel in Downtown San Antonio, and there was a traffic jam. Apparently there was some event on in an area close to our hotel. We eventually arrived at our hotel at about 8:15pm, approximately 12 hours after we left the last hotel. It made it a long day, but the kids were good and went off the sleep very easily, which gave us a little time to relax.
Tomorrow should hopefully be a day where we wont be in the car at all. There is a riverwalk, restaurants, park, The Alamo, and several other things which should keep us busy.
