13th March 2013 - Houston
Last night I bought tickets to the Houston Space Centre on the Internet. They were half price when bought online. We got up this morning and had breakfast and got out the door to be at the Space Centre when it opened at 10am. Out the front of it was a Space Shuttle Explorer, which is a replica of the the Space Shuttles. We were able to walk past the ticket line and get straight into the place.
Once we walked through the door, the first thing that jumped out at us was the HUGE kids playground. I have never seen one so big. Unfortanutely, as much as Kobe likes them, he wasn't too keen on going up alone. I will say this, and only say this once. Kids playgrounds are not built for someone that is 6 foot 4. After a short play, we contiuned looking around the exploring.
We had a tram tour which took us to the actual mission control centre that was used with the first moon landing. Following that, we looked at Saturn V. That is one damn impressive rocket. Never seen or imagined anything so huge!
After the museum, we had a quick lunch and then headed towards Kemah Boardwalk. It was only about 15 minutes away but weren't sure just how appropriate it would be for the kids. We kinda thought Kobe would fall alseep and Renee and Charli would be able to have a look around. Kobe stayed awake, and the place wasn't real suitable for the kids anyway, so we turned around and headed back to our hotel.
On the way, Kobe fell asleep so I dropped Renee and Charli off at the Starbucks that was next to our hotel so they could get Hot Chocolates. I had been speaking to Charli yesterday about what we would be doing today. I mentioned the Space Centre and Rockets... "OK". I mentioned a battleship... "OK". I mentioned we were staying next to a place with hot chocolates... "OH MY GOD!!!". Its the simple things.
After Kobe awoke, we headed towards the Battleship TEXAS. An old battleship that is now a museum that you can walk around and get an idea of what it was like to be on a battleship. The kids seem to enjoy that. Charli didn't quite understand if it was real or not. There wasn't an anchor in the water, so how was it staying there? Its not moving at the moment so it can't be real. I think she got it in the end.
After the battleship, we started heading back to our hotel. I had been looking at NBA tickets as the Houston Rockets were playing the Phoenix Suns tonight at 7pm. While i had been looking, and putting in cheap offers on the Rockets ticket exchange website, no one had taken up my offer. We stopped for petrol and while there i had a look on stubhub and someone at the last minute was trying to offload decent tickets at half the price they would normally cost. We decided about 5:45pm that we would attend the 7pm game. We turned the car around and headed towards downtown. First I had to stop at the Stubhub office to pickup the tickets, then off to the arena to see the game.
The game was pretty good, but one sided. Houston won easily. We were 13 rows from the court which was a nice change from some of the other games we had seen. Not only that, but the tickets were cheaper as well. After the game we came back to the hotel, put the kids to sleep, and packed ready for our big day tomorrow as we drive the I-10 to New Orleans.
I can't be bothered sorting photos today, so here is some of everything we did today, finishing with Charli taking a photo of herself :-)
