6th March 2013 - OKC

Our second day in OKC was an interesting one. We started the day with a nice breakfast, and then went out to the Oklahoma City National Memorial for the OKC bombing. It's always a strange feeling walking around a site where something tragic has occured at. Ground Zero had eery feeling, and this wasn't much different.

9:03am - One minute after the blast
9:01am - One minute before the blast
Each represents a life taken, and its location is approximately where they were when the bomb went off.
Smaller chairs represent child, the larger represent adults.
Gifts, notes, toys etc left to loved ones people lost during the blast
A kids area which has tiles of notes kids sent in after the blast, and chalk so kids can drawer on the ground.
The kids drawing...
Charli with her drawing
Americn Oak tree that survived the blast
The 3/4 inch deep water represents where the street was where the truck that went kaboom was parked. The chairs the location of the building.

The first thing we did was look at the fencing with the notes etc on it. Its strange to see some of the notes. One of them was a note from a son to his mother that he lost. He mentioned how it had been 17 years and he could still remember being in 5th grade and promising how he would never leave her. He then noted that its funny as even as time goes on, she has never left him.

The museum itself was interesting. The kids can make it hard to pay as much attention and detail as wI would like, but still good to see. Its hard to comprehend that something like this occured and we are standing on the site of it.

While the kids were doing their crayons, Kobe ran to the wall to get a different color crayon and while running back he tripped, and fell and used his face to break his fall. Wasn't a real pretty result. Could have been a lot more damage so i guess we were pretty lucky. He didn't seem to enjoy it though. A photo of the visible damage, as he managed to put a few teeth through his lip.

After the museum we put the kids in the car to get Kobe to sleep. It was a 10 minute drive to a shopping center, so we drove there and during the trip Kobe went to sleep. I sat in the car while Renee did a little bit of shopping. Seemed to make more sense doing that than sitting in the hotel room doing nothing while he sleeps. After he woke, we all went in and did some shopping and had some lunch. Charli enjoyed a nice Cheese and Ham roll from Subway, and I and Kobe had Chick-Fil-A, and Renee had Panda Express. Disappointingly, Panda Express is Chinese food, and not actually Panda burgers or something like that.

We went back to our hotel and went for a walk along the Canal around the Bricktown area we were staying in. While the weather isn't warm so the taxi boats aren't going, it did lead us directly to a playground which the kids enjoyed.

Upon getting back to our room, we decided on going to The Cheesecake Factory for tea. A tasty meal and the kids enjoyed theirs too. Once we got home it was time for a bath and bed. Both kids went into the same King bed and went off to sleep with no fuss. Excellent :-)

Tomorrow we will be entering Texas. Yeehaw!
